Ibnu Sayyad bukanlah Dajjal, namun mempunyai sifat-sifat Dajjal sehinggakan para sahabat Nabi Muhammad SAW juga menyangka bahawa beliau adalah Dajjal yang sering disebut-sebut oleh para Nabi dan Rasul sebelum itu. {2}
Imam Ahmad meriwayatkan dari Jabir bin Abdullah r.a, dia berkata;
"Bahawasanya ada seorang wanita Yahudi di Madinah melahirkan anak lelaki dalam keadaan (sebelah) matanya terhapus dan taringnya nampak (panjang). Rasulullah SAW khuatir kalau-kalau anak lelaki itu Dajjal. Lalu Baginda mencarinya, dan didapati dia sedang mengdengkur di balik selimut. Melihat kedatangan Rasulullah SAW, ibu anak itu memberitahu; "Hai Abdullah, ini ada Abul Qasim datang. Keluarlah dari selimut, temui dia!" kata Rasulullah SAW. "Kalau saja ibunya membiarkan, tentu anak itu akan berbicara berterus terang." Namun demikian tetap juga beliau bertanya, "Hai Ibn Sayyad, apa yang kamu lihat?" dia jawap, "Saya melihat kebenaran dan melihat kebatilan. Saya juga melihat 'Arsy di atas air." Rasulullah SAW bertanya, "Apakah kamu percaya bahawa aku Rasul Allah?" Dia malah balik bertanya, "Apakah kamu juga percaya bahawa aku Rasul Allah?" Rasulullah SAW menyatakan, "Aku beriman kepada Allah dan Rasul-rasul-Nya." Kamudian Baginda pergi meninggalkannya. Rasulullah SAW datang mencarinya lagi di kebun korma mereka. Kali ini pun ibunya
Dari Abi Sa'id; berkata Abi Sa'id, "Rasulullah SAW, Abu Bakar dan Umar bertemu dengan Ibn Sayyad di suatu jalan di Madinah, maka Rasulullah SAW bertanya kepadanya, "Apakah kamu bersaksi bahawa aku adalah utusan Allah" ia bertanya kembali, "Apakah kamu bersaksi bahawa aku utusan Allah?" Baginda bersabda, "Aku beriman kepada Allah, malaikat-malaikatNya, dan kitab-kitabNya. Apa yang kamu lihat?" Ia menjawap, "Aku melihat singgahsana di atas air." Baginda bersabda, "Kamu melihat singgahsana iblis di atas laut. Apa lagi yang kamu lihat?" Ia menjawap, "Aku melihat orang-orang jujur dan pendusta." Bersabda Rasulullah SAW, "Kesamaran atas dakwaannya ini. Biarkan dia." {4}
